Challenge

Lario Libri, a company with over 60 years of experience in book distribution, needed to increase operational efficiency, ensuring traceability, error reduction, and automation in sorting and shipping processes.

Solution

LCS designed and implemented an integrated system that includes:
  • Automatic sorter for sorting into three macro areas (GDO, stationery, internal storage), with automatic labeling up to 2000 books/hour.
  • WMS 4Ware for complete warehouse management, from arrivals to orders to shipping.
  • End-of-line automation, with a box former, 4 packing stations, and an automatic taping machine.
  • PLC LogiTrasp and WCS LogiCon software for plant control and supervision.

Key technical data

  • 2000 books/hour sorted and labeled by the sorter.
  • Barcode reading portal for identification and traceability.
  • 4 packing stations with automatic weighing and labeling.
  • Automatic box former with automated bottom sealing

Lario Libri, a company specialized in editorial distribution and based in Cantù (CO), has chosen to enhance its intralogistics operations by partnering with LCS to implement a sophisticated automated sorting and handling system.

The strategic goals were twofold:

  • Optimize warehouse operational efficiency
  • Ensure maximum traceability of inbound and outbound items, eliminating errors typical of manual handling

The solution includes the integration of an advanced sorter capable of processing up to 2,000 books per hour across 13 sorting destinations, with future expansion already planned. The sorting channels serve large-scale retailers, stationery stores, and internal storage locations, with eight additional exits scheduled for implementation in the coming months.

The system is tightly integrated with LCS’s proprietary WMS platform, 4Ware, which manages:

  • Goods reception
  • Picking list generation
  • Order fulfillment
  • Transfer to storage
  • Packaging management for shipment

Thanks to the WMS platform, all operational phases are executed more smoothly and quickly, allowing staff to focus on higher-value tasks. The system has:

  • Eliminated sorting errors
  • Provided full visibility across the logistics process
  • Improved ergonomics for warehouse operators

Lario Libri now benefits from a scalable infrastructure: already highly efficient, it is designed to grow further in terms of sorting capacity, with ongoing studies for system expansion.

Ultimately, LCS’s intervention has radically transformed warehouse management at Lario Libri, significantly reducing operational times and error margins, while increasing responsiveness to customer demands and laying the foundation for modular and sustainable growth.
