Challenge

Maintaining cycle times and production trends by assembling 27 elements in batches in three robotic islands for nut and spot welding.

Solution

Using simulation and appropriate mechanical and electrical promiscuities, masks were created to weld multiple elements, also with the aid of positioners and rotary tables.
  • To make the grippers promiscuous, they were designed and built in aluminum.
  • A positioner was used on one of the islands for undercut welding.
  • Robot programming was optimized to speed up cycles.
  • Cycle speed was optimized by modifying the nut welding machines to improve their performance.

Key technical data

  • Cycle time: 26 seconds per element
  • 2 CMT welding cells for simultaneous operations
  • 2 high-precision milling machines
  • Robots for part handling and quality control
  • Measurement station with QR Code reader, profilometers, and cameras
