Challenge

Optimizing the management of its logistics warehouse at the Longarone (BL) plant. With a global network and a portfolio of prestigious brands, the company needed an automatic end-of-line system capable of speeding up packaging and shipping operations, ensuring item traceability, and eliminating errors related to manual handling.

Solution

LCS designed and implemented an automated end-of-line system that optimizes the management of outgoing packages, improving efficiency and precision:
  • Automation of the packaging process with pick-to-light stations and barcode management for correct order matching
  • Automatic transfer of crates picked by operators from the upper floor to the lower floor via a high-performance continuous elevator
  • 12 packaging bays with barcode reading, automated packaging selection, and accessory item management
  • Customization of deliveries with 4 bays dedicated to special orders
  • Automation of package sealing with weight detection, flap closing, and taping
  • Automatic sorting to 15 exits dedicated to different carriers, with management of rejects and unread packages

Key technical data

  • Number of packaging bays: 12
  • Bays dedicated to customization: 4
  • Number of shipping exits: 15
  • Management software: LogiCON for plant control and LogiWare for operational management
  • Interface: ERP SAP and LogiTrasp PLC system for handling control

Founded in 1961, Marcolin is a global leader in eyewear, operating with over 1,700 employees, 4 logistics centers, and 14 branches worldwide. To optimize its manual processes, the company partnered with LCS Group to implement an advanced end-of-line automation system at its Longarone (BL) plant for eyewear handling, packaging, and shipping.

The system features a 12-chute sorter supported by a high-performance continuous ramp, transferring mono- and multi-order totes between floors while maintaining ergonomic working height.

At the packing stations, operators scan tote barcodes, and the LogiCON software displays item types and quantities, activating the pick-to-light system to streamline precise picking. Once packed and labeled, orders move via conveyor to dedicated output stations. During peak periods, additional chutes can be activated to support high-volume order fulfillment. Parcels are then routed to 15 shipping exits, while exceptions are automatically diverted.

The entire flow is orchestrated by LogiCON and LogiWare, which interface with SAP ERP and LogiTrasp PLCs. LogiCON ensures real-time parcel tracking, automated tote refill, and label printing, while LogiWare manages warehouse flows and stock-to-chute logic.

This software and hardware integration has streamlined Marcolin’s logistics operations, reducing manual errors, accelerating throughput, and ensuring end-to-end visibility across the supply chain.

Thanks to automation, Marcolin has increased its order accuracy, shipping reliability, and customization capabilities, meeting the demanding standards of premium brands such as Tom Ford, Guess, Adidas Sport, Max Mara, and Moncler.

The project represents a major step forward in logistics efficiency, process automation, and customer satisfaction in the luxury eyewear supply chain.
